Is investment in Real estate private equity a good opportunity in India.

I wish to understand whether at the current state of Indian economic scenario,would it be more judicious to invest through private equity route in real estste/construction sector rather than direct stock market exposure in real estate companies.
How do i evaluate in detail the various options keeping in mind a five year investment perspective.
